I WAS YOU

Searching, researching and Googling. Looking for someone or someway to beat my eating disorder. Health coaches, nutritionists, therapists, and dieticians - someone must have the answer. The process left me defeated, exhausted, and scared.

Just when I had almost given up hope, something in me changed. I was full. Full of ED.

Full: A Memoir of Overcoming an Eating Disorder is my powerful and utterly raw story of my battle with anorexia and learning to share my story. Filled with humor, wisdom, and inspiration, readers will feel empowered to overcome their own battle with disordered eating.

I did it, and so can you!

I hope my story empowers YOU to channel your own inner warrior and reach YOUR experience of recovery

Hi, I’m Sara Gottfried and I am so happy you are here! I am glad YOU found ME. Whether you are looking for wisdom, laughter, truth, or community, you have come to the right place!

First, let me formally introduce myself!

Sara the “author”

Let’s start at the beginning.

My battle with anorexia began when I was sixteen years old. What started off as a “simple” diet on the quest to be healthy, quickly spiraled into a path of rigidity, confinement, and malnourishment. I lost the most innate desire the human body has—to eat. Everything that I once found joy and pleasure in only fueled my anxiety. I began to lose myself mentally, emotionally, and physically.

I battled through endless appointments, unrelenting questions from doctors and professionals, and feelings of defeat and overwhelm. Despite this, I overcame four of the hardest years of my life. It was nothing short of easy and there were many times I wanted to give up. But, I did it. I made it through to the other side!

Sara the “social worker”

I graduated from Bridgewater State University with a Bachelor of Science and went on to complete the Advanced Standing Social Work program at Boston University, obtaining my Master of Social Work.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Massachusetts and work as a School Social Worker and outpatient therapist at a private practice. I am also a member of the National Association of Social Workers Massachusetts Chapter and dedicate time to volunteering with organizations I am passionate about.

Sara “on the street”

When I am not writing or working professionally, I am your average twenty-something girl living life! If I am not cozying up on the couch with a warm blanket and coffee in hand, I might be shopping, usually at Target or TJ Maxx, buying more mugs, blankets, and candles than I need, hiking throughout New England, or being a tourist in my own city. I also love to cook new recipes – drop me a line if you have any good one pot wonders – and host charcuterie board nights with my friends.
